You changed your business hours, address, or phone number. Then you checked Google Maps and the old information was still there.
That can feel like something is broken, but Google Maps does not update every type of information on one fixed schedule.
For Google Business Profile edits, Google says changes are usually reviewed within about 10 minutes, but some reviews can take up to 30 days. Google also says some business-information changes can take up to 3 days to appear in search results after they are accepted.
That means the real answer to “how often does Google Maps update?” depends on what is changing: business details, rankings, reviews, roads, satellite imagery, or Street View.
This guide focuses on the updates that matter most to local businesses.
How Long Do Google Business Profile Edits Take?
Google reviews edits before publishing them to help make sure the information is accurate and follows its guidelines.
According to Google’s official Business Profile edit documentation, most edits are reviewed within about 10 minutes, but some may remain pending for as long as 30 days.
After an edit is accepted, Google also notes that changes to business information can take up to approximately three days to appear in search results.
So if you change your:
- Business hours
- Phone number
- Website URL
- Business category
- Address
- Service information
do not assume the update failed just because it is not visible immediately.
Why Some Google Maps Changes Take Longer
Imagine a roofing company changes its address on Monday morning.
The owner checks Google Maps ten minutes later.
Nothing changed.
They check again that afternoon.
Still nothing.
The temptation is to submit the same edit repeatedly—but that usually is not the best response.
Google may still be reviewing the change or comparing it with other information about the business.
Google says it gathers business information from several sources, including user reports and licensed content. If those sources suggest information is outdated or inaccurate, Google can also update the profile itself. You can read Google’s explanation of Google updates to Business Profiles.
Google Maps Does Not Have One Universal Update Schedule
This is the part that causes confusion.
“Google Maps” contains several different types of information.
A business owner’s opening hours may update relatively quickly.
Satellite imagery of the same street might remain unchanged for much longer.
Road information, Street View, business listings, reviews, and local search rankings are maintained through different systems.
So there is no single answer like:
Google Maps updates every seven days.
That is not how the platform works.
What About Street View and Satellite Images?
Street View and map imagery are different from Business Profile information.
Google uses imagery from its own collection systems and trusted third-party providers to detect and verify real-world changes. Google’s Maps imagery documentation explains that imagery may be used to help identify changes such as new road signs and updated speed limits.
However, imagery does not follow the same timeline as a phone-number or business-hours edit.
If the building shown in Street View looks several years old, that does not necessarily mean your Google Business Profile is outdated.
How Often Do Google Maps Rankings Update?
Local rankings can change much more frequently than map imagery.
Google Maps results are generated algorithmically based on factors such as:
- Relevance
- Distance
- Prominence
- The searcher’s location
- The search query
- Changes to your Business Profile
- Changes to competing businesses
That means a contractor could rank #2 for “roofer near me” from one neighborhood and #7 from another.
A ranking can also change even if you have not edited anything.

Why Your Business Information May Still Look Wrong
If an accepted edit still does not appear correctly, check these possibilities:
1. The Edit Is Still Pending
Open your Business Profile and look at the edit status. Google may still be reviewing it.
2. Google Did Not Approve the Change
Google says edits can be rejected when it cannot confirm their accuracy.
Make sure your business information is supported by real-world information such as your official website, signage, and legitimate business details.
3. Google Applied Its Own Update
Google can update Business Profiles using information from other sources. If your profile changes unexpectedly, review the notifications inside the profile editor.
4. Your Website Still Shows Old Information
This is frequently overlooked.
If your Google Business Profile says one phone number but your website footer, contact page, or old location pages show another, you are creating conflicting information.
For local businesses, consistent information across the website and Google Business Profile is an important part of local SEO for contractors.
Should You Keep Editing Until Google Updates?
Usually, no.
If an edit is already pending, repeatedly changing the same information can create more confusion.
Instead:
- Check whether the edit is pending, accepted, or rejected.
- Confirm your website contains the correct business information.
- Make sure the information reflects the real-world business.
- Give Google’s review system time to process the change.
- If the edit is rejected, review Google’s guidelines before trying again.
Google’s Business Profile editing guide explains which types of business information can be changed and notes that edits are reviewed before going live.
Does Updating Your Business Profile Improve Rankings Immediately?
No.
This is an important distinction.
Changing your category, description, services, or website URL is not a button that instantly moves the business higher in Google Maps.
The information may help Google better understand the business, but local ranking still depends on Google’s broader relevance, distance, and prominence systems.
For example, adding “roof repair” as a legitimate service may improve clarity.
But if the website has no roof-repair page, weak local relevance, poor authority, and the searcher is far outside your service area, one profile edit is unlikely to transform rankings overnight.
Your Business Profile should work together with your contractor SEO strategy, website, reviews, links, and local content.
A Simple Google Maps Update Checklist
If you recently changed business information, use this checklist before worrying:
- Is the Business Profile verified?
- Does the edit show as pending?
- Is the information correct on your website?
- Did you change the business name, address, or category?
- Has Google requested additional verification?
- Have you waited several days after the edit was accepted?
- Are you confusing Business Profile data with Street View imagery?
Most importantly, avoid assuming every delay is an SEO problem.
The Map May Look Old While the Business Information Is New
That is the surprising part.
A business could have completely current hours, phone numbers, reviews, and local rankings while Street View still shows an older storefront.
Google Maps is not one database refreshing all at once.
It is several systems working together.
For local businesses, the information you can control should be accurate, consistent, and useful. Then give Google’s systems time to process legitimate changes.
